The Language Assistant Stipend Program provides compensation for language assistants with a stipend of $1,500 per year, and paid month-over-month as supplemental pay.

The program aims to cultivate a supportive linguistic framework at UTA, specifically for staff in student-facing roles. We encourage applications from staff in qualifying roles who are fluent in Arabic, Chinese, French, Tagalog, Urdu, Korean, or Hindi. For a list of qualifying roles and titles, see the Qualifying Roles section below.

Selection criteria for language assistants emphasize both language proficiency and a proven track record in translation. Before being allocated the stipend, candidates must pass a language literacy test supervised by a reputable third-party vendor affiliated with the University.

  1. Staff in student-facing positions initiate their application by submitting it through the designated SharePoint portal.
  2. The employee’s direct supervisor or manager reviews the submitted application for alignment with the program's requirements.
  3. Once approved, an automated notification is sent to the applicant and the Office of Talent, Culture, and Engagement (TCE) for processing.
  4. Office of TCE then coordinates with the applicant to schedule a language literacy test with Liberty Language Services, our external testing partner.
  5. Liberty Language Services sends exam logistics, access details, and guidelines to the applicant.
  6. After the test, results are shared with the applicant and the TCE for next steps.
  7. Applicants who pass the test are considered for the stipend based on the program's available funds and annual language needs.

Those applicants who have cleared the language literacy examination are considered for the program, based on current language needs. Not all applicants are able to be selected.

  1. TCE reviews a roster of candidates who have successfully cleared the language literacy examination and moves candidates into conditional Stipend Award Status
  2. TCE assesses the current stipend slots and gauges the demonstrated needs of the qualifying candidates.
  3. Upon assessment, TCE determines the stipend value allocated to each eligible applicant, considering the available stipend slots and specific requirements.
  4. TCE ensures that the $1,500 stipend is processed as supplemental pay over 12 months for each academic year, including Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. The monthly disbursement to each recipient will be $125.00.
  5. Eligible candidates are informed of their successful stipend allotment and briefed on the disbursement schedule and process.

Approved recipients will be notified and receive monthly stipends based on their continued participation in the program.

  1. TCE finalizes and communicates the stipend payment schedule for each academic year. The stipend will be disbursed as supplemental payments over a 12-month academic period.
  2. Starting in Spring 2024, each approved recipient will receive monthly stipend payments for the designated academic year.
  3. The total stipend value is $1,500 annually, translating to a consistent monthly disbursement of $125.00 over the 12-month duration; (Fall, Spring, Summer).
  4. The campus's evolving translation requirements determine the availability and precise amount of stipends each academic year.
  5. TCE undertakes an annual reassessment to ensure that stipends align with the fluctuating language translation demands and priorities on campus.
