Posting A Student Job

At UTA, we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Therefore, all job positions must be advertised through our designated online job portal, Handshake. To ensure our students have the information they need to make informed decisions, each job posting should include a detailed job description available on the Student Job Titles page.

In addition to the information below, a downloadable Student Employment Step-by-Step Guide has been developed by the Student Affairs team.

A job title is the official designation listed on the employment record and should be entered into the eForm when hiring a student employee.

  • Your department should use a position name that more accurately reflects the student’s responsibilities, such as "Helpdesk" or "Marketing Specialist," in the position description (30-character max). This helps students showcase relevant experience titles on their resumes.

Please select an appropriate job title from the Student Job Titles page that best fits your position.

  • All positions must be posted in Handshake
  • Ensure that you complete the Basics, Details, Preferences, and Preview screens with as much detail as possible to attract qualified and interested students.
  • Refer to the Handshake Posting Template Guide for detailed instructions on how to complete the job posting.

NOTE:  Departments may have a student return to the same position after a winter or summer break in service without re-posting the position

All positions must be posted on Handshake for a minimum of five (5) business days before an offer can be extended.

For detailed instructions and videos on how to post on handshake, please visit Handshake’s Help Center site.

What is Handshake?

Handshake is a powerful recruitment tool through which an employer can not only post positions, but can also identify qualified candidates, receive career center communications, and manage on and off-campus recruitment activities.

Connecting with UTA on Handshake is the first, and most important step in promoting a job opening or internship to UTA students/alumni.  Once your employer profile is approved, your organization will be able to post positions, as well as participate in our recruitment opportunities.
