Faculty Orientation at UTA

TOGETHER, WE THRIVE: FACULTY ORIENTATION AT UTA

Dear New Faculty:

Welcome to Maverick Country! We are honored to have you as a new member of our faculty. UTA's faculty is comprised of a talented group of award-winning teacher-scholars who form the core of a dynamic community committed to student success and academic excellence.

UTA is a Hispanic Serving (HSI), Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI), and a Carnegie R-1 very high research institution. Our mission is focused on access and excellence. As one of the largest institutions in the state, UTA has over 60,000 students and more than 200,000 UTA alumni around the globe. We are proud to put students first, follow a tradition of excellence, and have some of the highest-ranking designations and programs.

Rankings and Recognition

UTA's Division of Faculty Success holds two faculty orientations. The fall orientation is a three-day event open to ALL faculty, and it includes a welcome from UTA President Dr. Jennifer Cowley, Provost Dr. Tamara L. Brown, and our Vice Provost for Faculty Success, Dr. Minerva Cordero. A one-day Spring orientation is also held for faculty. Please see below for important information that can help ease your transition to UTA:

• UTA ‘s Learning Management System (LMS) is Canvas. For other information, please visit the Canvas Website. We also offer training on Canvas.

• Syllabus Preparation. UTA's Handbook of Operating Procedures (AA-FP-PO-11) calls for all faculty to make syllabi available online by the first day of classes. This policy supports Texas HB 2504 and HB 1027, which call for making this information available to the public, as well as the faculty member's CV through Digital Measures. We have a syllabus template available on the Provost’s website to make building a syllabus easier. When uploaded to Canvas using the “Upload Syllabus” tool, the syllabus will migrate to each faculty member’s profile page in Watermark/Digital Measures.

We look forward to meeting you at orientation. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can help with your transition. You may contact our office by email at facultysuccess@uta.edu or by phone at 817-272-7422.
