Teaching Awards
Piper Professor
Each year, the Minnie G. Stevens Piper Foundation awards 10 Texas Piper Professorships for outstanding scholarly and academic achievement and exemplary service to the University and the community. UTA’s nominee will be recognized with a plaque and an honorarium and represent the University in the fall statewide competition. The Faculty Senate coordinates this award.
President’s Award for Excellence in Distance Education Teaching
This award recognizes an outstanding UTA faculty member in web-based distance education. The teacher has demonstrated excellence in distance education teaching, creating quality interactions while showing exemplary responsiveness to UTA’s digital learners. The Center for Distance Education, in partnership with the Offices of the President and the Provost, coordinates this award.

The Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching honors non-tenure-track instructors who have demonstrated a record of excellence in teaching, strong personal commitment to students, and the ability to motivate, challenge, and inspire.

Regents Outstanding Teaching Awards
The UT System’s vision as an “institution of the first class” includes a commitment to continuous improvement in the quality of the education its faculty provide to its students. The Board of Regents places the highest priority on teaching at System universities. It encourages teaching excellence by recognizing faculty who deliver the highest quality of instruction through demonstrated excellence in teaching and a promising future of sustained excellence in all aspects of instruction.
The Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Awards symbolize the importance placed on providing teaching and learning of the highest order. The awards are offered in recognition of those who serve our students in an exemplary manner and as an incentive for others who aspire to such service.
William S. Ward Endowment Award
This prize was established to honor the life and contributions of UTA faculty member Bill Ward. It recognizes an Academic Professional Track faculty member who has an exemplary work ethic, loves working with students, and significantly impacts and enhances the university's goals.
