Faculty Onboarding

Your First Week

To ensure a smooth start, we've prepared a checklist of important tasks to complete during your first week at UTA.

Task List

We want you to feel welcomed and prepared as you begin your journey with us. Throughout your first week, you'll start to explore what it truly means to be part of the UTA community and your new team.

TCP Overview:
TCP is our central hub for managing time collection, leave requests, and workforce scheduling. On or after your first day, you’ll be enrolled in the TCP Canvas course tailored for your role.

What TCP Covers:

  • Clocking In/Out:  Record your work shifts.
  • Reporting Hours:  Review and report hours worked.
  • Leave Requests:  Submit requests for time off.

Actions Based on Employee Classification:

  • Administrative and Professionals (A&P) - Exempt Monthly:  Request Leave
  • Classified Exempt - Monthly:  Vacation, Sick, Hours Entry, Straight Time
  • Classified Non-Exempt - Monthly/Semi-Monthly:  Vacation, Sick, Hours Entry, Straight Time, Overtime
  • Casual (Hourly) - Temp/Non-Exempt:  Hours Entry

FOR CLASSIFIED NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYEES:

You are required to clock in at the start of each work shift, clock out before each meal break, clock back in after your meal break, and clock out at the end of your work shift. Rest breaks do not require timeclock actions. If you forget to clock in or out, promptly address the discrepancy with your Manager and Timekeeper approver.

Steps to Get Started:

1. Access Canvas:  Go to MyApps and select the Canvas app. You will find the TCP Training course on your dashboard.

IMPORTANT:

Make sure each module in the TCP Canvas Training shows a checkmark or completion mark.

Without completing all items, you will not receive access to the TCP timesheet icon.

3. Review Training Guide: Familiarize yourself with TCP using the training guide

NOTE:

Your Canvas course will also outline the specific actions and eligibility requirements for TCP based on your classification.

If you have worked for any other State of Texas agency or public university in the State of Texas (this includes any previous student employment), it is essential to transfer your prior state service to UTA. This can impact your benefits, leave accruals, and other employment factors.

During your first week, make sure to visit the Prior State Service website to complete the transfer process. For more details, click the link below to get started:

If your department, work area, or building requires a key for access, you will receive an email from the UTA O365 Service prompting you to approve a key request form. Work with your manager or department representative to fill out the request, if needed.

Here’s what to do:

1. Review the Request: Open the request form from the email and confirm that the key information is correct. Your manager will handle the request initiation.

2. Wait for Confirmation: You will receive an email confirmation once your keys are ready for pickup.

3. Pick Up Your Keys: Collect your keys in person at the Key Control Office, located at the J.D. Wetsel Building, 1225 W. Mitchell Street, Suite 100.

4. Bring a Valid ID: Make sure to bring a valid government ID with you when picking up your keys.

Key Control Office Hours:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
