Research Interests/Clinical Practice Expertise: Sheila Gold is the Assistant Dean of Admissions at the Tulane University School of Professional Advancement. She is a licensed clinical social worker and has professionally practiced in education for over 20 years as both an enrollment professional and school counselor. Sheila began her career at Tulane University in the Office of Undergraduate Admission and has worked in both the higher education and K-12 arenas. Sheila’s career has existed at the intersections of higher education and social work. At the core of the work she does each day, Sheila is dedicated to fair and equitable policies and desires to create an environment where the traditional and non-traditional student feels welcome to learn at Tulane. In addition to maintaining a clinical client load with a focus on family systems, parenting and child development, Sheila is an adjunct professor in social work at Tulane School of Social Work and University of Texas-Arlington School of Social Work. She has previously been an adjunct at Tulane School of Social Work. Dr. Gold has presented at multiple conferences both locally and nationally on the topics of admissions in higher education, child development, play therapy and school counseling. She has contributed articles to NOLA Baby and Family Magazine as well as Parenting for Moral Growth Magazine, and she published a character education curriculum for elementary and middle school counselors in 2012. In 2021, Dr. Gold co-authored the article “Value added by the doctorate of social work: professional satisfaction, scholarly leadership, and practice-informed research” in The International Journal of Social Work Education.
