Notes From Shahriyar
Hi Mavericks! This is Shahriyar. I am a Civil Engineering Graduate Student at UTA.
During my time at UTA, I had an amazing opportunity to work as a BIM (Building Information Modeling) Engineer intern at Tesla. This internship at Tesla provided me a remarkable and rewarding experience that further escalated my passion for innovative technologies and sustainable design.
I was responsible for coordination efforts and process enhancements for multiple projects for Tesla Model Y, Cyber truck, and Cell Production.
The position required both management and design skills. I had to lead meetings and provide recommended action plans to the design and manufacturing teams to enable well thought-out solutions that yield lower impacts to cost, and schedule. I had to develop BIM and VDC workflows to analyze, optimize and communicate the design alternatives, set the course for the digital delivery, and collaborate with different project teams.
Throughout my internship, I also explored and implemented emerging technologies such as Mixed reality (MR) for innovative solution and process improvement to existing BIM approach.
Tesla provided me with an environment where my ideas were valued, and I felt empowered to contribute to the ongoing advancements in the field. I was given the freedom to demonstrate innovation and implement new strategies. Throughout my internship, I constantly challenged myself going above and beyond in a fast-paced environment.
Overall, my internship experience as a BIM Engineer at Tesla was truly transformative. I had the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, collaborate with industry professionals, and contribute to the company's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. This internship not only strengthened my technical skills but also instilled in me a sense of purpose and commitment to driving positive change through innovative engineering solutions. I am immensely grateful to have been part of the Tesla team and will carry the invaluable lessons and experiences with me throughout my career.
The combination of academic knowledge and industry-relevant training provided by UTA Civil Engineering Department developed a strong foundation for my professional growth. Firstly, the department offered a well-structured curriculum that covered a wide range of subjects from where I had the freedom choose the subjects related to my field of interest. Secondly, having the flexibility to take the courses online offered me the freedom to customize my study schedule according to the demands of my internship at Tesla. Finally, I would like to mention about the exceptional faculty members of our department, who were always approachable and provided mentorship and guidance throughout my graduate study. And the staff members for providing administrative support and promptly addressing all inquiries during my academic journey and internship.
