Overview

The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) established the Innovation and Economic Prosperity (IEP) Universities Program to recognize institutions that have demonstrated a substantive, sustainable, and institution-wide commitment to regional economic engagement. The program assists universities in better understanding, measuring, and enhancing their economic and community development impact. This encompasses efforts in talent and workforce development, innovation and entrepreneurship, and place development through public service, outreach, and community engagement.

Impact

The impact of this designation is multifaceted. Each year, UTA and its graduates have an estimated economic impact in Texas of $27 billion, leading to the creation of about 227,000 jobs statewide. Within North Texas specifically, UTA and its alumni are responsible for about 4.2% of total employment.

Additionally, research emanating from the University generates an annual economic impact of about $159 million and creates 1,275 jobs in the region.
