Eligibility & Requirements
Admission is competitive into all programs. UTA Study Abroad staff and faculty leaders select participants based on application materials, admission requirements and student interviews (when applicable). Requirements may vary by program and it's important to carefully evaluate each program requirements to ensure you meet the guidelines.
Undergraduate Requirements
- Student must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with UTA in order to Study Abroad.
- Student must be enrolled at UTA for the term prior to studying abroad and during the application process.
- Many of the study abroad programs require a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for admission. Some programs require a higher GPA. Please consult with your Study Abroad Advisor if you do not meet the requirements for your program(s) of interest.
- Judicial checks are made for each applicant and any issues are dealt with individually.
- Freshmen students are eligible to study abroad after completing their first two semesters at UTA. Exceptions may be made for participants in faculty-led study abroad programs, with the approval of the faculty program leader.
- Transfer students must complete one semester at UTA before going abroad.
- Students who have college hours through Dual Credit programs or AP Credits must still complete their first two semesters at UTA.
- Student must maintain full time status while abroad according to undergraduate requirements.
- Student must complete all application requirements by posted deadline.
Graduate Requirements
- Student must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with UTA in order to Study Abroad.
- Student must be enrolled at UTA for the term prior to studying abroad and during the application process.
- Student is required to have a graduate GPA of 3.0 for admission.
- Judicial checks are made for each applicant and any issues are dealt with individually.
- Graduate students must complete one semester at UTA before going abroad.
- Student must maintain full time status while abroad according to graduate requirements.
- Student must complete all application requirements by posted deadline.

Please note that these are general deadlines. Many exchange and affiliated programs will have rolling admissions with priority deadlines earlier than the general application deadline. Please refer to the brochure page for the program you are interested in applying for the specific application deadline.
The UTA Study Abroad application opens online at midnight on the first day of the application cycle. Students are expected to complete all application materials no later than the end date of the application cycle.

Application Process
UTA Study Abroad staff will confirm you meet the academic standards for your intended program and complete a conduct check with the Office of Community Standards. Any concerns will be dealt with individually.
Effective for all students whose study abroad programs begin May 1, 2015 or later, there is a non-refundable $75 application fee required as part of the UTA Study Abroad application.
All UTA Study Abroad programs are competitive and programs can fill before the deadline. All students are strongly encouraged to apply as early as possible to ensure space on the program.
All sections must be completed in full by the listed deadline before your application will be considered complete. Incomplete applications and/or late applications will not be considered.
The Pre-Departure Stage is also the time for you to acquire all of your travel documents, immunizations and health insurance. For students studying abroad for a semester or longer, you should also prepare for your return to UTA following your program by speaking to your academic advisor, financial aid counselor and housing office if necessary.
