Beginning the Journey
EDUCATE
Complete the Beginning and Intermediate levels of your language courses (1441, 1442, 2313,2314), as well as GLOBAL 2301. These will help you select upper-division courses of interest.
Review the course options for the Modern Languages core foundational component area requirement.
Participate in a conversation hour sponsored by the department.
ENGAGE
Join a language club.
Make peer contacts within all of your classes.
Verify that you are on the Modern Languages listserv to receive special event announcements.
Attend department events such as Open House, Study Hall, industry lectures, film screenings, poetry workshops, as well as others (food tastings, cooking classes, multicultural karaoke).
Attend Global Grounds.
Ask faculty about volunteer opportunities.
EXCEL
Attend free tutoring led by Modern Languages faculty and peers available in all eight of our language programs.
Find free tutoring at the IDEAS Center (2nd floor of Central Library).
Become a better writer: Use the Writing Center.
Become a better writer in Spanish by using the Spanish Writing Center.
With a 3.75 semester GPA, get recognized on the College of Liberal Arts Dean's List.
Trailblazing the Path
EDUCATE
Consider adding a minor or certificate.
Complete any remaining Modern Languages required foundational course(s).
Undertake a service learning course, an internship, or a study abroad program.
Join the UTA Global Engagement Language Exchange Program and/or become a Global Maverick.
ENGAGE
Attend lectures on campus. Examples include:

Join Phi Sigma Iota, the International Foreign Language Honors Society.

Get great at doing research,
Ask your advisor if you are eligible to apply for the McNair Scholars Program.
Consider joining the Honors College.
Submit your research to the Global Insight Journal, published by the McDowell Center.
Meet with faculty to discuss attending a regional, national, or international professional conference in the next year, and ask about possible funding.
Destination Graduation
EDUCATE
Meet with your advisor to ensure you have no outstanding requirements.
Apply for graduation.
ENGAGE
Seek out post-and pre-graduation internships and research opportunities.
Discuss your curriculum vita or resume with Modern Languages faculty.
Attend UTA Career Fairs and MODL Career Fair to meet with prospective employers.

Discuss graduate school with Modern Languages faculty.

Attend a study abroad program with one of the Modern Languages faculty members, or apply for a semester abroad program through a UTA partner university.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Run for a leadership position in a language club or Phi Sigma Iota.
Become an MODL Ambassador or tutor.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
• Undertake a course with a Service Learning project.
Volunteer for a partner organization.
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH
• Apply to submit a paper at our biennial Cultural Constructions Conference.
