How?
If you have taken a language in high school, or learned one at home, explore our Pathways into
Modern Languages Programs to earn a Language Minor in under one year or a Language Major
in two to three years. Through Avant Language Assessment or the Global Seal of Biliteracy you
can receive up to 14 college credit hours when you take a course at UTA at the next level in the
language you tested.*
Please see sample pathway into Chinese minor, but minors for other languages work similarly.
What's next?
Choose from the following languages: American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, French,
German, Korean, Russian, or Spanish.
Take the Avant exam before the first day of classes if you are admitted to UTA before the
fall/spring semesters begin.
For late registration, students must take the Avant exam no later than the second day of classes.
For more information and to schedule your test, contact the Department of Modern Languages
at proficiency@uta.edu.
*Testing fees apply. AP, IB, and CLEP options are also available.
