The UTA Fine Art Collections (UTA FACs) is housed on-campus and maintains a dozen notable collections of artifacts and artworks, representing cultures and peoples across the globe, with a focus on educational research and study. It comprises hundreds of works in many media, including ceramics, glass, painting, photography, prints, and sculpture. Students have the opportunity for hands-on engagement and analysis of these works through the Collective Encounters program, a curriculum enhancement initiative that invites students from all areas of study to participate in documenting, researching, and touring the Collections.
Selections from the collections appear in satellite exhibitions across campus and in semester-long exhibitions in the Visual Resource Commons Gallery. Several of these collections are now available to view online via the new UTA FAC's database.
UTA FACs Mission Statement:
The University of Texas at Arlington Fine Art Collections’ mission is to maintain a professional system for documenting, presenting, and ensuring the stewardship of the many varied forms of art and artifacts here on the University of Texas at Arlington campus. UTA FACs embraces a leading role in fostering scholarly study and research opportunities that can only be found through direct interaction with works of art, which is enhanced through our campus-wide exhibitions, cultural events, and curriculum enhancement programs.
UTA FACs Vision Statement:
Dually, our vision for the future of UTA FACs, is to expand the knowledge and awareness of our students, colleagues, and the surrounding communities through the continued development of these collections with a strong focus on educational enrichment and research. Future commissions, donations, and expansion of UTA FACs will be determined around these factors and their coordinating requirements for support and sustainment. Our goal is to succeed in continuing the University of Texas at Arlington’s tradition of connecting our community with superb artforms and their cultural history, while at the same time extending the reach of art and all it has to offer.
