Howard and Arista joyner hired to establish art

1937

Howard and Arista Joyner hired to establish an Art Department at North Texas Agricultural College (NTAC), a forerunner of UTA.

1930s

Painting program at NTAC specializes in camouflage painting Classes held in the current Planetarium building.

1930s

1939

Delmar M.Pachl, who studied under Thomas Hart Nenton, hired to teach painting. In 1944, Pachl is killed in action during WW2 in the Philippines.

Andy Anderson hired to teach Film and Photography.

Angelo Savelli is a visiting professor at UTA prior to receiving Guggenheim Fellowship (1980) and American Academy of Arts and Letters award (1983)

Andy Anderson selected as Chair of Department of Art & Art History.

Groundbreaking ceremonies begin on April 14, 2003 for the Studio Arts Center.

Visual Communication (previously Graphic Communication) student enrollment reaches 270 students.

The Gallery at UTA opens Silver, the gallery’s 25th anniversary exhibition featuring 25 artists and a panel discussion.

Department receives accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
