Wait-List Policies
Art Majors Wait-List Policy
“Art-majors” are students actively pursuing one of the following degree plans at UT Arlington:
- Bachelor of Arts in Art History
- Bachelor of Arts in Art
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art
* Any student that does not align with the above, must refer to the wait-list options below for Non-Majors, including Interdisciplinary Studies and University Studies majors
Each semester, “Art-majors” will receive an email from the Art Academic Advisors once the wait-list period begins for Art courses that have been advised as full for the upcoming semester. The instructions will be included in the email.
Here are some important FAQS to keep in mind:
- All applicable pre-requisites must be satisfied for the courses requested
- Any courses that are intended to go under the Art Concentration area of a degree plan MUST have approval from a faculty advisor in the student's concentration area prior to submitting to the wait-list
- A student may not wait-list for more than two courses at a time
- GPAs will be checked to ensure that the requestor is in good academic standing with both the Art Department and UTA. Students with deficient GPAs may be denied their wait-list request.
- Wait-listing for a course does not guarantee a spot in the course, nor does this process substitute the general advising requirement. “Art Majors” are still required to meet with an academic advisor each semester in order to have their advising holds removed and to be cleared for courses.
*The Art & Art History department reserves the right to make adjustments to this policy at any time.
Art History Minors Wait-List Policy
All officially declared Art History Minors may wait-list for Art History courses at any time. The wait-list form would need to be filled out in order to be cleared for Art History courses. All required prerequisites must be met in order to gain approval for the desired course and will be verified. Also, section 2 of both ART 1309 and 1310 have open enrollment across all majors and do not require submission to the wait-list.
Non-Major Wait-List Policy
Art Minors and Non-Majors may fill out a waitlist course request form online using our Non-ART Major Request form on the date designated by the Department Advisors. Specific course number/section required. This form link may be obtained by reaching out to the A&AH Office.
A Non-Major is defined as a student who is not a degree seeking major within the Art + Art History department at The University of Texas at Arlington.
“Art-majors” are students actively pursuing one of the following degree plans at UT Arlington:
- Bachelor of Arts in Art History
- Bachelor of Arts in Art
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art
Our commitment is to ensure that all “Art-majors” graduate in a timely manner. Therefore, at this time, all art courses are restricted to “Art majors” with the exception of Art 1301-Art Appreciation.
Non-majors are welcome to submit the Non-Major Course Request form for a specific class and section according to the start dates designated each semester by the Art + Art History Advisors. Only two courses may be requested each semester. You must have proof that all required prerequisites are met at the time of your request. Proof of applicable prerequisites must be visible on your UMAP (Undergraduate Maverick Academic Progress) at the time of your request or you must submit a university issued transcript for any course that is not presently listed on your UMAP at the time of your request.
If there are seats available, we will authorize students to register for those courses on a first-come first-serve basis. We do our best to accommodate Non-Majors as space permits, but art courses are never guaranteed.
*If you are an Architecture or Interior Design major, we require ARCH 2303 and 2304 as prerequisites for Advanced Art History Classes.
**Please note that in accordance with the Proposed Core Curriculum for Fall 2014, the “creative arts” requirement can be satisfied by taking an approved course in either Theatre Arts, Music, Architecture or Art. Therefore, beginning Fall 2014, there will be a set number of seats reserved for non-majors for the following Art History courses and the designated core component areas:
Creative Arts Component Area (3 hours):
- ART 1309 - Art of the Western
- ART 1310 - Art of the West II
Language, Philosophy & Culture Component Area (3 hours):
- ART 1317 – The Art of Non-Western Traditions
The process for gaining permission for one of the three Art history courses is outlined above. Please speak with your major academic advisor to determine the course options relevant to your specific degree plan.
