UTA launches Center for Space and Data Science

In January 2026, UTA established the Center for Space and Data Science (CSDS) to enhance its role as a leader in space research and education. Supported by $1.5 million from the National Science Foundation, the center leverages research efforts from NASA and the U.S. Air Force. Its mission includes training the space workforce through new degree programs in space physics and data science, positioning UTA to make a major impact on the space industry in Texas and beyond.

UTA strengthens its space science leadership

UTA’s space science presence reached new heights in March 2026 with the recruitment of Dr. Anton Artemyev, an expert in magnetospheric dynamics. Dr. Artemyev is a co-investigator on Phase B of NASA’s $180 million CINEMA mission, which studies how plasma energy flows into Earth's magnetosphere. His work is essential for improving space weather forecasting, which protects the global power grid and satellite communications from solar disruptions.
