At UTA we support our employees in reaching their full career life cycle potential by creating a culture where they are valued, accepted, and respected. UTA Legislative SB17 Bill Guidance

On June 27, 2023, Senate Bill 17 (relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at public institutions of higher education) was approved by the governor. When the bill was introduced, UTA created a taskforce to prepare for its potential impact across the institution. The taskforce created a three-phase plan to help UTA implement change in areas impacted by this bill.

Awards and Accolades

Seal of Excelencia

UTA is one of just six institutions nationwide this year to earn the Seal of Excelencia certification, a prestigious honor granted to colleges and universities for their commitment to accelerating Latino student success. The certification comes from Excelencia in Education, a national authority on promoting Latino student success in higher education.

Top 10 Military Friendly School

For 2023-24, UTA received both a top 10 Military Friendly® School designation and a Military Spouse Friendly School designation. The Military Friendly® Schools list is based on extensive research using public data sources, input from student veterans, and survey responses from participating institutions.

Top for Indigenous Students

UT Arlington was chosen again for the 2022-23 list of Top 200 Colleges for Indigenous Students by the American Indian Science and Engineering Society. The list is published in the Winds of Change 29th annual Special College Issue.

AANAPISI designation

UTA was designated an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution for the first time in 2021.

HSI DESIGNATION (HISPANIC SERVING INSTITUTION)

In 2020 UTA was designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution but the US Department of Education, White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics

No. 1 in Texas for serving First-Generation, low-income Students

In 2020, the educational nonprofit ScholarShot ranked UTA tied for first in Texas for serving first-generation, low-income students on its Texas Public University Report Card.


#5 for Ethnic Diversity

UTA has the fifth-highest undergraduate diversity index, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2023 rankings.

Top Performers on Social Mobility

U.S. News & World Report ranked UTA No. 41 on its 2023 list of the “Top Performers on Social Mobility” among national universities.

High Ranks for Degrees to Diverse Populations

According to the 2022 edition of Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine, UTA is No. 2 in Texas and No. 16 nationally for awarding bachelor’s degrees to African American students and No. 1 in Texas and No. 15 nationally for master’s degrees. In addition, UTA is No. 18 for bachelor’s degrees and No. 9 for master’s degrees awarded to Hispanic students nationally; No. 17 for bachelor’s degrees and No. 15 for master’s degrees awarded to all minority students nationally; and No. 1 in Texas and No. 28 nationally for master’s degrees awarded to Native American students.

Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award

In 2023 UTA received the HEED Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. As a recipient UTA will be featured, along with 107 other recipients, in the November/December 2023 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. This marks the third time UTA has received the HEED Award.
