The ESS Advising Team serves students through a developmental advising program that caters to their holistic needs. This team equips students with the knowledge, tools, and resources for academic excellence in their chosen engineering major. Students on Academic Probation

In the transition to their major (with an academic probationary status) with one or more of the three GPAs below 2.25:

  • UTA cumulative
  • Engineering/Math/Science (EMS)
  • Major

Conditional

Students admitted to the College of Engineering with one or more of the conditions listed below::

  • Transfer GPA is below 2.5
  • UTA GPA is below 2.5

*Upon returning to UTA, the department may require Conditional Admission.

Advising Services

An academic support program in Canvas that is used to clarify expectations of students and advisees and gives access to:

  1. needed information regarding the COE status
  2. tools to increase the likelihood of academic success
  3. commonly-used forms and links

Group Information Sessions where students can build a sense of belonging and support from their peers. Additionally important information is presented to enhance the understanding of COE requirements, policies, and resources.

Advising + where students have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an advisor to provide support and information specific to the individual needs.

Partnering with your Advisor

Your advisor can be one of your best resources along your path to graduation. To improve your likelihood of success, it is critical you and your advisor partner together.

Here are some tips to help you work with your advisor.

  • UNDERSTAND the college's expectations of you while on conditional admission or probation status.
  • COMMUNICATE with your advisor. If you have any questions, email.
  • CAREFULLY READ all emails sent to you from ENGRadvising@uta.edu email account.
  • COMPLETE the Canvas Academic Success Program assignments by the due dates.
  • ATTEND mandatory group advising sessions.

Express Advising

Express advising is available on a walk-in basis.

First come, first served. Once full for the day, will need to return on another day or email/schedule an appointment.

An express session is a maximum of 15 minutes. If more time is needed an appointment is required.

Students are welcome and encouraged to schedule advising appointments at any time.

Academic Advisors

Other than new freshmen, non-probationary students with at least 24 credits are normally advised by their department advisors. New freshmen are advised by the Division of Student Success.
