Alumni Association awards scholarships, hosts programs

Scholarships increase

The Scholarship Selection Committee met July 31 to finalize scholarship recipients. For the 2007-08 academic year, more than 70 students received scholarships totaling more than $100,000, a 65 percent increase over the 2006-07 awards. Recipients were recognized at a reception in September. Thanks to everyone who attended the reception and volunteered their time to judge the applications. SAA to host tuition raffle

The Student Alumni Association will hold its sixth annual tuition raffle Oct. 26-28 during Parents Weekend. The event will award up to 12 hours of undergraduate, in-state tuition excluding fees for the spring 2008 semester. Young Alumni report

The Young Alumni Chapter hosted its 3rd Official UT Arlington Graduation Party on May 11 at the Blu Bar on Cooper Street. Alumni Association President Theresa Berend gave a graduation toast. More than 300 attended with 25 new alumni joining the association. For more information, visit the Young Alumni Web site at www.utaya.org.

Students attend network conference

SAA members attended the Association of Student Advancement Programs Network Conference, Aug. 9-12 in Columbus, Ohio. The group submitted Oozeball for outstanding program. Additional submissions included outstanding organization and outstanding adviser. The Association of Student Advancement Programs is a professional organization for student alumni associations, student foundations and ambassador programs. The conference welcomed 300 universities and colleges from across the United States.
