President James D. Spaniolo recently named Jerry Lewis as vice president for communications and Jean Hood as vice president for human resources. Both began their duties in September.

Lewis has more than two decades of higher education communications and marketing experience and for the past five years was communications vice president at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. In his 18 years there, he also held the positions of assistant vice president for communications at the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and executive director of communications for the university.

He managed all aspects of Miami’s communications and marketing. He developed and managed communications plans for the university’s $1.25 billion Momentum Campaign and the 2004 U.S. presidential debate.

Lewis earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

Hood was most recently vice president for human resources at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. Her 20 years of human resources experience in higher education include creating a university-wide classification system for non-union positions, designing and implementing a performance management program and revamping the hiring processes for staff and faculty.

She is certified as a senior professional in human resources by the Human Resource Certification Institute and is a member of the Northeast Human Resource Association and the Society of Human Resource Management.

Hood received her bachelor’s degree from Lesley College in Cambridge, Mass.
