During a visit the Ombuds will first explain the IOA's Standards of Practice. The Ombuds offers a confidential and non-judgemental space for you to tell your story. After listening, the Ombuds can suggest options available to you and help you brainstorm ways to resolve your situation.
DIFFERENT OPTIONS TO ADDRESS CONCERNS COULD INCLUDE
- Coaching on verbal and written communication
- Information about policies, procedures and resources
- Assistance with formal processes
- Suggesting methods of informal resolution

- The Ombuds can visit any department, group, or office to discuss the services or a topic of interest
Consider Contacting the Ombuds if you
- Need policies and procedures explained
- Are uncertain about what policies and procedures might apply to your situation
- Believe that a university policy, procedure or regulation is unfair or has been applied unfairly or incorrectly
- Believe that you are being unfairly or inappropriately treated by someone at the university
- Need to know who has the authority to make an exception to a rule or policy
- Need to know how to make a formal complaint or grievance
