Dr. Maria Yareli Delgado
Senior Director of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Initiatives
Dr. Maria Yareli Delgado was appointed as the inaugural Senior Director of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Initiatives at The University of Texas at Arlington in March 2023. In this role she will institutionalize a Hispanic Thriving identity that focuses on Servingness with intentionality across the university and community. She also serves as a Research Associate at UTA's Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS)-College of Education. Dr. Delgado served as Visiting Assistant Professor in the UTA’s College of Education and is the founder of the Hispanic Serving Graduate Leadership Certificate. She holds degrees from The University of Texas at Arlington (Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies), University of North Texas (Masters of Higher Education), University of Texas at Arlington (Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies), and Dallas College-North Lake Campus (Associates Degree of Arts in Bilingual Education). Dr. Delgado has over fifteen years of experience in community college administration (academic affairs and student services). Prior to coming to UTA, Dr. Delgado was an administrator at Tarrant County College- Southeast. She led the Supplemental Instruction Program and Hispanic Serving Initiatives. In addition, she served as coordinator of academic programs and adjunct faculty at Dallas College-Northlake Campus.
Dr. Delgado’s research examines three interconnected lines of inquiry (1) Hispanic Serving Institutions: defining servingness and experiences of Latino faculty at Hispanic Serving Institutions, especially at community colleges, (2) Leadership: experiences of women of color leading community colleges, and (3) Latinx Students: experiences of first-generation Latinx community college students and Early Collegiate High Schools. Dr. Delgado’s research has been published in The Community College Journal of Research and Practice.
