Our mission is to ignite a brighter future for urban youth by engaging them today and equipping them for tomorrow.
We feel called to bring hope to the lives of at-risk children by providing resources that will help them break the cycle of generational poverty. Our programs, preschool, after school, summer, mentoring & parent engagement, are designed to ignite spiritually, engage relationally, and equip academically.
General Service Needs
Fortress is always looking for mentors from the community to work one-on-one with our students. The mentor is a positive role model from the community (that has completed high school) that invests one hour a week over the course of at least one school year with their mentee. This can be any hour during our after school program hours (3:00 - 6:30 pm, Monday-Thursday). The mentor's responsibility is to:
- Build a relationship by planning and participating in activities with a mentee.
- Serve as a positive role model and friend.
- Demonstrate positive, appropriate behaviors and encourage those behaviors in a mentee.
- Provide encouragement and support to help a mentee achieve his/her goals.
- Build self-esteem and motivation.
- Are consistently available.
- Have fun together!
Anyone interested in becoming a mentor can fill out our volunteer application at: http://www.fortressydc.org/volunteerapp

This opportunity is NOT a weekly commitment like the mentoring program and can be scheduled during times throughout the semester. Interested individuals can fill out our volunteer application at: http://www.fortressydc.org/volunteerapp
