What We Do

Transform and Innovate Teaching by Helping Faculty:

  • Choose and best utilize resources, technology, and tools that fit the teaching context
  • Promote students’ critical thinking and reasoning for successful learning
  • Develop effective, problem and inquiry-based, active learning experiences
  • Integrate hallmarks of the Maverick Advantage into teaching and learning: Leadership Development, Undergraduate Research, Community Engagement, Career Development, and Global Engagement
  • Establish a positive classroom culture of support and belonging

 

Collaborate with Faculty to:

  • Develop research and program grant proposals that include transformative curriculum and instructional innovations in teaching and learning
  • Help connect faculty across campus on interdisciplinary educational research and program grant proposals and initiatives
  • Engage faculty in relevant pedagogical research dialogue and seminars to inform teaching and strengthen skills in teaching and educational research

 

Provide Faculty with Resources and Services, Including:

  • Personal and/or small group teaching consultations
  • Professional development programs on teaching and learning for faculty and graduate students
  • Models and support for creating and/or revising courses in on campus and online environments
  • Guidance in solving teaching problems and classroom management
  • New faculty teaching readiness program and graduate teaching assistant program (CIRTL)

 

Support Innovative Technology and Research-Based Teaching Approaches:

  • Engage faculty with instructional experts to explore and pilot new teaching methods and technologies
  • Implement research on new technologies and teaching methods in university classrooms, while scaling-up successful practices
  • Develop new courses and techniques including Flipped Classrooms, and test the viability and impact of these strategies as aligned with the UTA strategic plan
