Maverick Speakers Series Kicks Off

Celebrated journalist and TV host John Quiñones greeted UTA’s Student Ambassadors after kicking off the 2024-25 Maverick Speakers Series this fall. During his lecture, Quiñones shared his personal journey to a successful career in journalism as the child of a poor Mexican immigrant family and highlighted the importance of journalism. He said that journalism should be “the candle in the darkness,” revealing injustice and corruption. “When journalism is done right, those are the stories we should be telling,” he said.

Ice-T will visit campus as the next featured lecturer in the Maverick Speakers Series Wednesday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Texas Hall. Tickets are free for students, faculty, and staff and $5 for community members and alumni at utatickets.com.
