Dramaturgy for a theatre production can range from researching the authors, the content, the era, style, and cultural milieu of the creative work being produced to working with agents, new playwrights developing new works, or simply providing a director and the director’s creative team with necessary facts. Dramaturgy can also cross into areas that are linked with audience education and new audience development. A dramaturg is both wordsmith and theatre ambassador, often helping to make theatre more accessible (and interesting) for today’s audiences, opening up the world of the play.
