Campaign Collaborations
Advertising campaigns classes worked with the United Way of Tarrant County on their Area Agency on Aging, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, and Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Caregiver Health programs.
Competitions
Members of American Advertising Federation (AAF) competed in the National Student Advertising Competition (NASC), creating and presenting a strategic marketing campaign plan for Tide to drive consumers to wash 75% of all laundry in cold water by 2030.
Broadcast Highlights
Awards and Recognition
UTA Radio won regional and national awards, including Signature Station for the best college radio station in the country from the Broadcast Education Association. UTA Radio also provided live coverage of the total solar eclipse during UTA festivities.
BCMN students won 5 Texas Intercollegiate Press Association Awards for their work at the Scripps Howard Foundation funded UT-Arlington Sentinel News (UTA's news desert initiative).
Original Productions
Maverick Media, our student media club, produces a variety of original video shows, such as UTA Spotlight for the city of Arlington, an entertainment show called The Music Box, and a sports segment called The Maverick Report.

Communication Studies Highlights
Community Projects and Research
Students Lydia Burge and Priscilla Hansen presented their research at regional academic conferences, Grace Postelwate and Rim Solomon were members of a group project for Health Communication that was accepted for publication in UTA’s Stimulus journal, and Arian Goudar is the co-author of a book chapter to be published in Routledge’s Handbook of Gender and Digital Media.
Student teams in Communication Research partnered with UTA athletics to analyze various communication strategies’ impact on game attendance
Collaborations
Students in Communication Training & Development collaborated with students in Corporate Video Production to create training videos for Arlington Public Libraries.
Internships
This past year, Communication Studies students interned at companies such as Mars Inc., Saxum Advertising and Marketing, as well as nonprofits such as ISRA Foundation (dedicated to creating safe spaces for Muslim women).
Communication Technology Highlights
Innovative Projects
User Experience Research and Design students conducted research and applied interaction design frameworks to develop interactive contents for two ongoing projects, a safe driving campaign aimed at North Texas drivers and an app tailored to help college student find affordable housing.
Students in the Communication Technology capstone course collaborated in teams to redesign websites for nonprofit organizations, Mentoring Brother 2 Brother, Cima Art Collective, and Dallas Refugee Project. These service-learning projects provided students with valuable real-world experience and enable them to make a meaningful contribution to the community.
Journalism Highlights
Collaborative Multimedia Community Projects
Students in Reporting, Data Journalism and Public Affairs Reporting in the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters produced more than 50 multimedia packages for UTA’s Arlington Sentinel News.
Digital Storytelling students collaborated with the Arlington Museum of Art this academic year. Students in the course created photo essays, minute documentaries, and audio features for the museum’s blog reaching thousands of museum newsletter subscribers and social media followers.

Christine Vo won TIPA’s Photojournalist of the Year along with 1st place wins in five additional categories
Drew Shaw participated in an Archer Fellowship with Al Jazeera English on their Fault Lines documentary this semester and won first place in 3 TIPA categories.

Public Relations Highlights
Awards and Recognitions
Madison Sikes won a first place award in the PR Release Writing Live category at the TIPA convention.
Class Projects and Campaigns
The Public Relations Campaigns class worked with Taste Community Restaurant, a pay what you can restaurant that is expanding to Arlington.
They also executed a reputation management campaign on behalf of public relations, educating students about career opportunities in PR and creating and managing social media channels.
Networking and Professional Development
The Spring Intro to PR class organized an original networking event, connecting students across communication classes to hone their networking skills.
Students in PR Management conducted one-on-one interviews with strategic communication professionals from brands such as PMG Worldwide, Rare Beauty, DFW Airport, Disney, The Washington Post, The Dallas Mavericks, and The Dallas Cowboys.
Philanthropy Highlights
Event Partnerships and Volunteering
The Intro class partnered with River Legacy Foundation to increase attendance at their annual Earth Day Event. Students created social media posts, videos, posters, and initiated tabling events across campus. They volunteered at the event to welcome guests, run children's activities, and create social media posts.
Fundraising and Development students partnered with SafeHaven of Tarrant County to assist their development department with their annual 'Purple Party' fundraising event. Consulting and Development Projects
Nonprofit Managementstudents consulted and assisted with the formation & nonprofit management plan for a new nonprofit, POUR Ministries. Through research, students developed an action plan to help form and launch their nonprofit, along with a first-year budget and a logical framework for their first community program.
