Alumni Association Update

Student Alumni Association members attended the recent ASAP conference.

Alumni Association honored for excellence

The Alumni Association won five awards in the 2008 Council for the Advancement and Support of Education District IV competition. The alumni membership program won gold for Most Improved Alumni Program; the African-American Alumni Reception won silver for Most Improved Alumni Program; the Oozeball Tournament won silver for Best Student Program; the Alumni Picnic in the Park won bronze for Best New Alumni Program; and the tuition raffle won bronze for Best Student Program.

Tuition raffle rewards student

The Student Alumni Association held its sixth annual tuition raffle Feb. 15 during the Homecoming Blue and White Bash. Winner Erica Bogan, who came to UT Arlington from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, received up to one year of undergraduate, in-state tuition, excluding fees, for the 2008-09 academic year. Online sales helped the event raise more than $15,000.

Alumni host progressive dinner

Several alumni welcomed Student Alumni Association members into their homes in March for the annual progressive dinner. Students dined with Alumni Association Board of Directors president Theresa Berend, president-elect Emily Hoad and former president Daniel Kauth as well as Young Alumni Chapter board members Neer Patel, Roger Ornelas and Megan McIntyre.

Adviser, Student Alumni Association recognized

The Association of Student Advancement Programs named Jasmine Stewart the 2008 Outstanding Adviser at the District 4 conference Feb. 29-March 1 in New Orleans. Stewart is the Alumni Association's assistant director for alumni and student programs. The Student Alumni Association's Oozeball Tournament received the Outstanding Program award.
