On the Spot

Alexandra Guio - Senior Criminal Justice Major

Alexandra Guio

Spotted: 2:14 p.m. May 6 near the Maverick Activities Center's new indoor soccer field.

How often do you play here?

About once a week for intramurals. We play in a co-recreation league with the ATOs (Alpha Tau Omega fraternity).

How does this compare to the old soccer facility?

Instead of having permanent barriers, they’d turn tables backward. You’d see guys flip over them all the time. I wasn’t brave enough to play there. The new field is great. People come to play more often, and you don’t have to worry about falling over a table.

What are the differences between indoor and outdoor soccer?

Indoor soccer is six-on-six. The goalie is pretty much the only one who stays put. Everybody else follows the ball.

What else do you do in the MAC?

I think I’ve done everything but ping-pong and badminton. I love the new TVs. They take my mind off of how much I’ve been exercising. I also hip-hop dance with the Filipino Student Association. We use one of the rooms here to practice.

Besides the soccer field, have you used any other phase two features?

I’m waiting for the weather to warm up to use the sand volleyball courts. We play at Centennial Court now, but it’ll be way cooler to play here. I love playing video games, but I haven’t played here yet.

Describe the MAC to someone who’s never been here.

Besides having a great design, you can find at least one thing to do that’s fun and keeps you in shape. When the rock-climbing wall comes (this summer), that’s definitely the first thing I’ll tell them about.

What are your plans after graduation?

I’m going to law school.
