Scores show Fort Worth ISD students are still behind pre-pandemic learning

UT Arlington education professor John Roming provided perspective on recently released State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STARR) scores for Fort Worth ISD schools, reported the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and AOL news.

DFW housing inventory improves, but still unbalanced

More homes are for sale in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area than in any time in the last decade. However, buyers are purchasing those homes at the same pace they were a year ago. “Supply pressures are easing slightly, but there’s still a long way to go,” UTA’s Sriram Villupuram told the Dallas Morning News.

UT Arlington nursing student wins award

In her second year as a vocational nursing program instructor at Victoria College, Amanda Langley earned the Distinguished Teaching Award from the VC Foundation, reported the Victoria Advocate. A registered nurse working in labor and delivery in addition to teaching, Langley also is pursing her Bachelor of Science in nursing from UT Arlington.

Grant allows UTA researchers to explore canine language

Have you ever wondered what a dog’s bark means? A team from UT Arlington led by Kenny Zhu has a grant from the National Science Foundation to use machine learning to see if they can decode “dog words,” reported Macon, Georgia-based WMAZ television and KVUE in Austin. The story also was carried by dozens of CBS, ABC and Fox affiliate stations nationwide.
