LINK Lab grant

George Siemens, executive director of UTA’s Learning Innovation and Networked Knowledge or LINK Research Lab, has received a new grant to help Boeing plan for teaching employees to work alongside bots, robots and artificial intelligence, KXAS NBC 5 and ScienMag reported.

Diseased coral research

The National Science Foundation and Environment Guru reported on UTA research that found a correlation between a strong immune response in diseased corals and a lower expression of genes associated with growth and reproduction. Laura Mydlarz, UTA associate professor and associate chair of biology, led the research, which was published last month in the Royal Society Open Science journal.

Friendship Council

UTA President Vistasp Karbhari was among the community leaders who participated in the Indian American Friendship Council reception for Nikki Randhawa Haley, U.S. ambassador to United Nations, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Irving, Indian Defense News reported.

Using genes to heal

Juhyun Lee, an assistant professor in the Bioengineering Department, has been awarded a prestigious Career Development Award by the American Heart Association to study how genes might be used to heal hearts, Heart Disease Weekly reported.

Geosynthetics committee

Asif Ahmed, UTA research assistant professor of civil engineering, has been named a member of the 2018-2021 Transportation Research Board Standing Committee on Geosynthetics, Geosynthetics Magazine reported.

Panama connection

UTA’s Kevin Hervey says playing for the NBA's Dallas Mavericks would be a dream come true, The Dallas Morning News reported. Hervey could become the fourth player from UTA to be selected in the draft, and the first since 1982.
