Sewer robot
A team made up of UTA civil engineers and representatives from Arlington Water Utilities recently used robotic technology to give Ennis city officials an eye-opening look at their sewer system, arlington-tx.gov reported. The results of the examination of Ennis’ critical underground assets will provide community leaders the ability to prioritize millions of dollars of future infrastructure spending. Ali Abolmaali, chair of the UTA Civil Engineering Department and the Dr. Tseng Huang Endowed Professor, is leading the original project for the city of Arlington.
Concussions study
A study co-written by UTA associate professor of kinesiology Cynthia Trowbridge shows that many parents and guardians of young athletes have a limited understanding of concussions despite the large amount of information available, Science Daily and News-medical.net reported.
Student film
UTA student Alexis Nguyen’s documentary “Ocean Waves” will be shown at the 16th annual Asian Film Festival of Dallas, which kicked off Saturday and ends Thursday at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas, KXAS NBC 5 reported. The documentary is about Nguyen’s father’s immigrant journey to the United States.
Alumna appointed
Janice Klostermeier has been appointed senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, Calif., WFLX Fox 29 in West Palm Beach, Fla., WSFA NBC 12 in Montgomery, Ala., KCBD NBC 11 in Lubbock and several other media outlets reported. Klostermeier holds a bachelor’s in business administration from UTA.
UTA graduate featured
Andrew Feghali, CEO of Aeroblaze Laboratory, a company that ensures that interior materials of planes meet fire safety regulations, was featured in Fort Worth Business. Feghali holds an MBA from UTA.
Health care award
Toni Green won Northwest Texas Healthcare System’s Clinical Excellence Award, which is given to the system’s acute and critical care surgery department staffers, the Amarillo Globe-News reported. Green holds a bachelor’s in nursing from UTA.
News team addition
Allie Martin has joined a bureau of WCBI CBS 4 in Columbus, Miss., as a reporter, the station reported. Allie attended UTA.
Former UTA student featured
Ashley Kelashian, a Denver-based veteran stage actor who is confined to a wheelchair, was featured in an article on the website of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Kelashian, who will play the lead role in the play “Annie,” attended UTA.
