Looking at pain
Pain Week, Third Age, Stat and MedPage Today reported that Robert Gatchel, UTA Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Nancy P. & John G. Penson Endowed Professor of Clinical Health Psychology, has edited one of the first special issues of the Journal of Applied Biobehavioral Research dedicated to pain catastrophizing.
Helping fellow veterans
WFAA ABC 8 reported on recent UTA graduate Jason Simmons. Simmons earned his master’s degree in social work from UTA after serving eight years as a U.S. Marine. Simmons wants to help his fellow veterans now.
COB touted
Fort Worth Business reported that UTA’s College of Business MBA and EMBA programs have been named Tier 1 in Global Ranking by CEO Magazine. This is the second consecutive year the college has appeared in the ranking.
Twitter talk
Julian Rodriguez, a lecturer in the UTA Department of Communication, was quoted in a KXTX Telemundo 39 story on a controversial tweet from the NE Tarrant Tea Party. Rodriguez pointed out that inciting violence against journalists has often led to social and civil upheaval.
Tiny houses
The Washington Times reported on tiny houses designed by UTA College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs students. The designs are part of UTA’s Parallel Construction program, allowing students to get hands-on experience designing and building.
State budget done
The Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle and Star-Telegram reported that Texas lawmakers have approved the two-year state budget, which includes funding for higher education.
Stroke patient help
A rehabilitation glove for stroke patients developed at the UTA Research Institute was mentioned in an Asbury Park Press article about a young stroke survivor.
Transportation forum
UTA hosted city leaders and the Arlington community for a public forum on public transportation, the Arlington Voice reported. UTA’s Institute of Transportation Engineers co-hosted the event.
Special Olympics
KXAS NBC 5 and WFAA ABC 8 reported on the opening ceremony for the Special Olympics Summer Games. The annual games have been held on UTA’s campus for the last decade.
Filmmaker gives tips
Screenwriter and producer Marcel Rodriguez spoke to UTA students studying film, Rambler Newspapers reported. The Machete Kills and From Dusk Til Dawn writer discussed developing storytelling skills, creating Latin American characters and the transition between film and television.
Future Mavs
Two Mansfield school district students will be attending UTA after receiving Dell Scholars Program scholarships, Your Mansfield ISD reported. Timberview High School’s Hana Ali and Summit High School’s Samira Bideh both have medical aspirations after attending UTA.
New CEO/president named
UTA alumnus Andy Heintz will take over Lee Johnson Capital Management as CEO/president after the company’s namesake and leader retires, Fort Worth Business reported. Heinz earned a bachelor of business administration degree from UTA.
Alumna takes new role
Alumna Amanda Baskett will step into the director role at Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology, Rockdale Newton Citizen in Conyers, Ga., reported. Baskett earned her master’s of education in curriculum and instruction from UTA in 2014.
