From the President
As I write this, we have recently closed out another great year in Maverick Country, and I’m looking back at 2023 with profound appreciation for our incredible community and all we have accomplished together. This past fall was especially action-packed: We had an amazing Homecoming, with our men’s basketball team bringing home an exciting win in front of a roaring crowd at College Park Center.
UTA also had the opportunity to take part in a historic milestone for the city of Arlington when the Texas Rangers won the World Series for the first time ever. Our band and spirit teams marched in the city’s celebratory parade in front of the many hundreds of thousands of people who came to revel in the team’s victory. It was such a proud moment for us all, and I’m thrilled our University was part of it.
There is much to cheer for in the new year, from the countless outstanding accomplishments of our students, faculty, and staff to the incredible successes of our amazing alumni. The bond we share is truly unlike anything else. We’re all united by what we call the Maverick Factor—that characteristic that makes us bright, passionate, hard-working, and fearless in pursuit of our goals. The pages in this magazine are brimming with stories about the Maverick Factor, from an engineering professor who is exploring ways to cool data centers more efficiently to a student who is achieving her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse to two alumni who have been instrumental in the development of Texas’ newest state park. I hope you enjoy the read!
As you welcome a new year, I hope you will also take a moment to reflect on how the Maverick Factor has made a difference in your life—and I’d love for you to share your story with me if you’re so inclined! I am always thrilled and honored to hear from our community, so please keep in touch. Connect with me on Twitter/X or visit my website to share your feedback.
