First MavsMeet Convocation

Samantha Maverick mascot

Before there was Blaze, there was Samantha Maverick, the female counterpart to UTA’s other mascot at the time, Sam Maverick. Here, Samantha cheers on the crowd before the University’s very first MavsMeet Convocation in 2004. Held the first day of the fall semester, the event welcomes new and returning students to campus. On this day, following the Convocation, students headed to the east lawn of the former Activities Building for food, bands, an illusionist, and interactive games.
