UTA’s four basketball teams compete in national tournaments
It's basketball season in Maverick Country!
UTA’s men’s and women’s basketball teams are in Las Vegas to play in the 2024 Hercules Tires Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament.
For the first time in program history, the No. 5 Lady Mavericks advanced to the semifinals after defeating No. 4 Utah Tech in the quarterfinals, on Thursday, March 14. They will face No. 1 California Baptist on Friday, March 15 at 2 p.m. Streaming of the tournament is available on ESPN+ (subscription required).
The No. 3 Mavericks will also advance to the semifinals after scoring 109 points, an all-time WAC Tournament record, against No. 6 Stephen F. Austin, on Thursday, March 14. The No. 3 Mavericks will face No. 2 Tarleton State on Friday, March 15 at 10:30 p.m. The game will be nationally broadcasted live on ESPNU and SiriusXM 970, locally on 102.5 FM and 620 AM. Streaming of the tournament is available on ESPN+ (subscription required) and the Varsity Network App.
In addition, the Movin’ Mavs and the Lady Movin’ Mavs headed to their respective championship games in the Intercollegiate Division of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA), hosted by Southwest Minnesota State University and The University of Alabama, respectively.
The Lady Movin’ Mavs finished second at the 2024 NWBA Women’s Intercollegiate Nationals after advancing to the championship game where they defeated No. 3 University of Illinois. The NWBA named Zoe Voris and Elodie Tessier to the All-America first team, Elizabeth Becker to the All-America second team, Quinn Meyer and Harmonee Reutes to the All-Rookie team, Hannah Exline to the Academic All-America first team and Elizabeth Becker and Elodie Tessier to the Academic All-America second team.
The Movin’ Mavs fell to The University of Alabama, on Thursday, March 15. Their run continues to finish in the top 5 against Mizzou, on Friday, March 14 at 2: 00 p.m. Streaming will be available here.
