Yardi Scholars program supports first-gen students at UTA
First-generation students at The University of Texas at Arlington will have the opportunity to receive additional scholarship support thanks to a generous gift from Yardi Systems.
Yardi Systems, a property management software leader for real estate clients worldwide, has made a $320,000 gift to establish the Yardi Scholars program, which will award scholarships to students with financial need who intend to major in business, with preference given to first-generation students. Scholars will receive $10,000 per year for up to four consecutive years of study.
“Supporting education is a core pillar of Yardi’s corporate philanthropy,” said Jay Shobe, senior vice president of Yardi Systems. “We believe in the life-changing impact of a college degree, especially for first-generation scholars, and we are thrilled to partner with UTA to help these students achieve their goals.”
UT Arlington President Jennifer Cowley said scholarships are vital to driving the University’s mission of ensuring student success and expanding opportunity.
“The University is committed to recruiting talented students who show great promise,” Cowley said. “Thanks to philanthropic partners like Yardi Systems, we’re able to offer a top-tier education to students from all backgrounds so they can reach their full potential.”
Princess Duran and Rosaura Lopez are the inaugural Yardi Scholars. Both freshmen are the first in their families to attend college.
“I am thankful to Yardi Systems and feel blessed and honored to be the recipient of this prestigious scholarship,” Duran said. “It will help me pursue my dream of majoring in international business and will help me stay focused on school."
Lopez said the scholarship is a life-changing opportunity.
"Receiving this scholarship means so much to me,” Lopez said. “As a first-generation student, I was scared by college and its costs. This scholarship will help me grow and give me the chance to serve my community and give back.”
UTA College of Business Dean Harry Dombroski said he was grateful for Yardi Systems’ support and partnership.
“Scholarships ensure talented first-generation students like Princess and Rosaura have the opportunity to pursue a degree in business and are on track for successful careers,” Dombroski said./p>
