UTA named a Top 25 LGBTQ+ Friendly College
BestColleges.com, in collaboration with Campus Pride, has named The University of Texas at Arlington as one of this year’s “Top 25 LGBTQ+-Friendly Colleges” in the United States.
“It’s just a really high honor, and a reflection of how the University is such a welcoming campus,” said Liam Rhodes, a recent UTA grad and incoming graduate student. “Students feel like they have a place here.”
BestColleges.com and Campus Pride’s collaboration highlighted and recognized educational institutions for their inclusive and supportive environments for LGBTQ+ students, including academic and student success resources. The “Top 25 LGBTQ+-Friendly Colleges” rankings are aimed at empowering prospective LGBTQ+ students with valuable insights to make informed decisions on their future higher education plans.
UTA ranked No. 16 overall and received a five-star rating on the Campus Pride Index.
Angela Maldonado, a senior in the School of Social Work, said she chose UTA because she knew it had a good social work program. Its inclusive and supportive campus environment was an added bonus. She said she “fell in love” with the University “because of everything good that it does.”
“I’ve always felt like I’m in a safe and inclusive environment, and I’ve never felt invalidated by my identity here on campus,” Maldonado said.
