Family and friends of Steven B. Hatch (’91 BA, Communications) have created an endowed scholarship fund to honor the late University of Texas at Arlington alumnus.

The Steven B. Hatch Memorial Endowment will provide scholarships for juniors and seniors in UTA’s men’s and women’s golf programs. To date, more than $33,775 has been raised from more than 50 donors.

Hatch grew up with a passion for athletics and received a full scholarship to play on the UTA golf team. His time on the team solidified his career aspiration to become a PGA club pro, while introducing him to lifelong friends. Hatch spent his career in golf, becoming a member of the PGA after college.

When he passed away in December 2021, several friends and family members, including his wife, Stephanie Hatch, and several UTA golf teammates, wanted to find a way to honor Hatch while making an impact.

“Steve’s family and friends want this scholarship to represent the person we love and his memory for many years to come,” Stephanie said. “We know he would be pleased we established this scholarship fund in his name so that other young golfers can be given the same opportunity he was given at the beginning of his career.”

Scholarships are a critical resource that help UTA recruit and retain the best and the brightest students from around the country and the world while advancing them along their career paths.

The men’s and women’s golf programs began play this season in the Western Athletics Conference, after spending the past nine seasons in the Sun Belt Conference.

“The generosity of Stephanie and other Maverick golf supporters will make a momentous impact on the success of these programs in perpetuity,” said Jon Fagg, UTA director of athletics. “This is an incredible opportunity for Maverick Athletics and both of our men’s and women’s golf programs, and I know Steve’s story will inspire our student-athletes.”
