The University of Texas at Arlington and the University of Houston–Clear Lake (UHCL) signed an agreement to make UHCL a subrecipient under TMAC.

“This partnership will allow TMAC to expand the brand and serve more manufacturers across the state of Texas,” said Rodney Reddic, TMAC interim executive director. “UHCL is uniquely positioned to service the lower Houston Gulf Coast region with both the engineering and business schools providing graduate student support and state-of-the-art facilities. UHCL is well-positioned to support a TMAC program in the region.”

As a National Institute of Standards and Technology Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NIST-MEP) approved center, TMAC is the official representative of the MEP National Network in Texas. TMAC has eight regions across the state to reach Texas manufacturers, including locations at the following host institutions: Lamar University, Southwest Research Institute, Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, Texas Tech University, UTA, UT El Paso, UT Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) and now UHCL.

Miguel Gonzalez, dean of the College of Science and Engineering at UHCL, has previous experience working with a TMAC program when he was at UTRGV.

“With Dr. Gonzalez’s leadership, we are confident that TMAC/UHCL will be a thriving program in the very near future,” Reddic said.

This newest partnership will allow TMAC to easily reach the manufacturers in the Gulf Coast region. The TMAC business advisers will provide the region with best practices in many areas of expertise, including Lean Six Sigma, quality management systems and transformational projects that assist manufacturers in increasing their profitable growth, adding jobs and improving the Texas economy.

“I have been engaged with TMAC for some time and I am very aware of the benefits of the program in terms of process and operational excellence for all manufacturers,” Gonzalez said. “I have no doubt the program will provide opportunities for our students to be engaged in impactful projects for our region, and our industry partners will have access to transformational projects to optimize the performance of their enterprise. Students will also get opportunities to add certifications to their curricular education that will make them more valuable to industry.”
