Maverick Speakers Series returns with celebrity chef Carla Hall
This year, The University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Speakers Series is back and in person for its 14th annual season.
The season kicks off Sept. 26 with Carla Hall, celebrity chef, TV personality, and author, at Texas Hall on the UTA campus. Hall first won over audiences when she competed on Bravo’s Top Chef and Top Chef: All Stars, sharing her philosophy to always cook with love. She is a trained chef who has worked in several professional restaurant kitchens in and around the Washington, D.C., area and believes food connects us all.
Hall spent seven years co-hosting ABC’s popular, Emmy-winning lifestyle series The Chew. She is currently featured in the Food Network shows Thanksgiving, Holiday, and Halloween Baking Championships as a judge and Worst Cooks in America as a host. Her 2018 cookbook, Carla Hall’s Soul Food: Everyday and Celebration, landed on annual “Best Cookbook” lists across the country and received an NAACP Image Award nomination in the category of Literary Work–Instruction.
In 2021, she published her debut picture book, Carla and the Christmas Cornbread, a heartwarming tale loosely based on Hall’s childhood growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, that celebrates family traditions and includes a kid-friendly cornbread recipe perfect for the holidays.
Tickets for “An Inspiring Evening with Carla Hall” are available at utatickets.com. The event is free for students, faculty and staff, and just $5 for the general public. Visit the Maverick Speakers Series website for updates as new speakers are announced.
