Rajeshwar named editor of Electrochemical Society journal
Krishnan Rajeshwar, distinguished university professor of chemistry and biochemistry at The University of Texas at Arlington, has been appointed editor in chief of the ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology, a publication of the Electrochemical Society.
The appointment began Jan. 1 and will run for three years, through Dec. 31, 2021. As editor, Rajeshwar will manage a technical editor/associate editor team of five people with support from the ECS Publications staff.
A current ECS fellow, Rajeshwar served as ECS president from 2016-17. Over the course of his long membership in the ECS, he also served as editor of Interface (the ECS quarterly magazine), as an elected officer and as a member of numerous ECS committees.
“This is a tremendous honor and a major undertaking, but one which I am looking forward to,” Rajeshwar said. “I have had a long association with the Electrochemical Society and I look forward to serving the Society and its members in this new role.”
In 2009, Rajeshwar received the ECS Energy Technology Division Research Award, which recognizes outstanding and original contributions to the science and technology of energy-related research areas that include scientific and technological aspects of fossil fuels and alternative energy sources, energy management, and environmental consequences of energy utilization.
Rajeshwar’s research interests include photoelectrochemistry, solar energy conversion, renewable energy, materials chemistry, semiconductor electrochemistry and environmental chemistry.
He has authored monographs and edited books, special issues of journals, and conference proceedings on energy conversion. He is the author of over 350 refereed and well-cited publications and has served on the editorial boards of several electrochemical journals.
He is also the founding director of UTA’s Center for Renewable Energy and Science Technology.
Launched in 2012, the ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology focuses on fundamental and applied areas of solid state science and technology including experimental and theoretical aspects of the chemistry and physics of materials and devices, according to the ECS website. The journal’s technical scope covers carbon nanostructures and devices; dielectric science and materials; electronic materials and processing; electronic and photonic devices and systems; and luminescence and display materials, devices, and processing.
“This appointment as editor speaks to the level of respect Dr. Rajeshwar has from his peers in the field of electrochemistry,” said Fred MacDonnell, professor and chair of the UTA Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. “His knowledge and expertise in this field will greatly benefit the journal and elevate its already prestigious standing as a highly regarded and influential source of information and outlet for groundbreaking research.”
Rajeshwar has received numerous awards, including the Wilfred T. Doherty Award from the American Chemical Society in 1994. He is a charter member of the UTA Academy of Distinguished Scholars (2004) and received the UTA Distinguished Record of Research Award in 1991. Rajeshwar earned his doctorate in chemistry from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India, in 1974 and completed his postdoctoral training at Colorado State University. He came to UTA in 1983 and has served the University and College of Science in various capacities, including as associate dean.
