Mohat receives Emergency Management Association of Texas honor
The University of Texas at Arlington’s business continuity planner has earned one of the highest awards from the Emergency Management Association of Texas.
Cindy Mohat, UTA business continuity planner and emergency management coordinator, received The President’s Award at the 11th Annual EMAT Symposium in recognition of her substantial efforts to carry forward the goals and objectives of EMAT.
UTA Police Chief Kim Lemaux said the award is well deserved.
“Cindy has dedicated over 20 years to making a difference in the emergency management profession, making significant contributions at UTA and throughout Texas. ” Lemaux said. “This award and recognition signify what an important role she plays both at UTA and at the state level.”
Mohat headed up the EMAT certification committee. She was responsible for updating Texas Emergency Management certifications.
Mohat, who has been UTA’s business continuity planner and emergency management coordinator for the last 10 years, said she was honored and surprised.
“What’s satisfying for me is that the certification committee work helps identify emergency management professionals, who have met a standard, which provides a professional base,” Mohat said.
Mohat has a degree in emergency administration and disaster planning, and has practiced emergency management for 20 years at the local, county, state and federal levels. She has coordinated hazard and security assessments on campus, responded to incidents, written disaster plans, exercised different scenarios and trained first responders in the Incident Command System.
EMAT, established in 1987, is dedicated to the advancement of the field of emergency management both statewide and nationally. The association engages in efforts to advance a statewide emergency management agenda and to promote the professional growth of emergency management practitioners.
EMAT also has been actively involved the legislative arena in Austin. The association has an active legislative committee that is committed to keeping members informed about legislative efforts that affect the emergency management community. Additionally, several EMAT members are routinely requested to testify before legislative hearings in support of emergency management legislation.
