Beaware of Potentially Fake Tariff Fees
Procurement & Strategic Sourcing is beginning to see "tariff" fees appear on some quotes based on the recently imposed tariffs. We will work closely with any supplier seeking to increase their prices so that we can understand the details of the commodity being impacted, as well as the country of origin, before we allow a price increase.
Unfortunately, some suppliers may use this time to try to build in extra profit under the guise of a tariff fee that may not be legitimate.
However, Procurement & Strategic Sourcing only see a portion of the quotes that are used to procure items on campus. For purchases under $15K you are processing at the departmental level, please review your quotes carefully and if you see a specific line item for a “tariff fee” do not hesitate to question the supplier as to the basis of the fee.
We continue to have discussions with our key suppliers as we all try to navigate this new and challenging landscape. We are still early in the process so long-term impacts are difficult to assess at this time, but our office will continue to share information as we move forward.
