The checklist below provides the foundation for ensuring that a course in Blackboard is ready for migration to Canvas. This checklist is also available in our Migration Resource page.

Determine and select the most up-to-date shell (or master shell) as provided by CDE.
Evaluate all course content to decide what is still relevant to your course. Refer to your course objectives to check that your content is aligned.
Save original videos on your computer desktop and remove them from the course Files.
Arrange files in folders in the File Directory.
Delete excess content including duplicate files and outdated materials.
Backup your course. Your course backup can be retained on your local computer and will serve as an archive of all your original content.
Export Rubrics to your local computer. Ensure names are unique and reflect the course name and module/assessment.
Export the course tests, surveys, and test pools to your local computer.
If using a publisher’s test bank, contact the publisher’s representative to assist you in obtaining tests compatible with Canvas, if needed.

Modules are clearly organized (preferably in learning modules); Module and content names are unique and reflect the course’s learning objectives.
Submission directions for all assessments are correct. Review each page, especially the submission directions for quizzes, discussions, assignments, to ensure the submission directions are not referencing Blackboard.
Verify home page (front page) is accurate for the course in Blackboard.
Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions – All have correct points possible. They are linked with appropriate Modules and reflect the course’s and modules’ learning objectives.
Remove references to other learning management systems (Blackboard) across the course, especially media (instructor recorded videos) and assessment instructions.
Take notes of the adaptive release rules for content in Blackboard.
Ensure groups are setup correctly and are still relevant to the course.
Ensure videos are loaded into Kaltura by accessing Kaltura at faculty/staff link in Blackboard and select my media.
Total possible points (or percentages) match the course syllabus.
Delete information that references Blackboard.
