Thomas Mwibanda

Thomas Mwibanda, LCSW is a military clinical social worker with experience in military social work with emphasis in combat trauma, leadership training, change management, and provision of recommendations on socio-environmental factors that impact unit effectiveness. Tom obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from the University of Nairobi, Kenya (1999), a Master of Arts in Ministry Based Evangelism majoring in Biblical Counseling from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX (2005), and a Master of Social Work from the Army’s MSW program by Fayetteville State University, NC (2016). Tom has been involved in global advocacy for senior adults, during his college years. As a social student leader in Kenya, he was involved in the planning and implementation of global awareness of the plight of older persons, as a part of the UN’s declaration of 1999 as the Year of Older Persons. He was selected as the country’s young persons’ representative for Kenya at the UN’s conference in Denmark, which culminated with the ratification of the UN’s charter on the rights of older persons, by many countries which had not done so. His research interest is in how virtual reality intersects with mental health treatment modalities to improve treatment outcomes, especially in the Military and Veteran populations.
