Recognizing the leadership, research and teaching contributions of women in science at UTA

Yue Deng

Dr. Yue Deng is an internationally recognized leader in space physics research. Through her innovative work, we’re learning more about how space weather can affect Earth’s atmosphere and things such as communication systems. Soon after coming to UTA, she received a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Award, which is given to a select few early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department.

In 2021 Deng was named by NASA as one of three scientists to lead a Geospace Dynamics Constellation mission that will change our understanding of Earth’s upper atmosphere. She is also heading a Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) project, funded by more than $8 million in U.S. Department of Defense grants, to develop next-generation simulation capability in ionosphere-thermosphere coupling at multiple scales.

“An inclusive and welcoming atmosphere, which embraces differences and offers respect in words and actions for all people, is crucial for the STEM fields.”
