Laura Mydlarz

Dr. Laura Mydlarz’s research focuses broadly on coral immunity and disease, and how immunity responses lead to different disease susceptibilities in coral species. “I always loved the ocean and was drawn to marine biology from childhood. When I learned about the issues facing coral reefs, I knew I had to work to help save them in any way I could.”
Mydlarz has also been a part of several programs designed to engage students in hands-on experiential learning. She has been a tireless advocate for providing increased opportunities for women in science, and she also serves on the University’s Women Faculty and Staff Network.

“I work hard to be a role model for girls so they can see that being a scientist is a real, obtainable goal. I love talking to girls about their love of the ocean and teaching them about all the work that needs to be done by future generations.”
