Department of Communication Launches Digital Media and Culture Course to Explore Media's Societal Impact
Arlington, TX - The Department of Communication at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is set to introduce an online course that delves into the complex relationships between media, people, and society. Digital Media and Culture (COMM 2393), taught by journalism instructor Marty Harvey, will offer students a comprehensive exploration of media's profound influence in the digital age.
Scheduled to debut in Spring 2025, the course is designed to provide students with a critical understanding of how media shapes and is shaped by cultural dynamics. The class will feature six synchronous Teams discussions throughout the semester, allowing for interactive and engaging learning experiences.
The course curriculum will examine four key areas of media interaction:
- The ways individuals influence media content and narratives
- How media platforms impact human perceptions and behaviors
