UTA Mavericks who choose to pursue College of Education degrees, certifications, or certificates are a diverse group of students. In our "U at UTA” series, we are featuring their stories.
What was your undergraduate degree in?
I got my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from UT Arlington.
What do you consider your hometown?
Although, I was born in San Diego, California, I have spent the last six amazing years in Dallas, and I would consider Dallas home as well.
What’s your why? Why do you want to become a teacher?
Teaching is the most noble profession in existence because it impacts entire generations. I believe it is my calling to be part of this mission to educate and inspire the minds of our future leaders.
There are so many different options for teacher certification in Texas. Why did you choose UTA and Project Match Made in Schools specifically?
In addition to continuing my education at the great University of Texas at Arlington, I chose UTA and Project Match Made in Schools specifically because of how this program will help me reach my goals in helping these gifted individuals with disabilities and providing an amazing opportunity to keep on advancing.
How is Project Match Made in Schools helping you pay for school?
Project Match Made in Schools is helping me pay for school by providing an opportunity with funds for courses as I complete all the requirements in the program.
What do you love most about the program so far?
What I love most about the program so far is how everyone in the department has been so kind and helpful. I also love all the information I have been provided with as this has been an amazing process.
The faculty has been great, and I am very grateful to be blessed with a great group of highly respected members. Every staff member is phenomenal!
I have not had any field experience at any schools yet, but I was blessed with an opportunity to work as a special education assistant on the resource team for Highland Park ISD.
What has been your experience as an online student?
My experience as an online student has been smooth as it benefits me from a time standpoint. Additionally, all the resources provided online help me keep everything organized. Connecting with other students has been easy, as we all have the same goal of succeeding in this program and helping others. Everyone has been so kind. Balancing work, life, and school is all about time management. Creating a schedule helps me establish a routine. Planning out my days and taking it day by day has been the most helpful.
Anything else you want to add?
I highly appreciate everyone that has helped me with the process of transitioning into the program, and I am very grateful for the faculty for always providing the help we need. I look forward to always being a part of the UTA and Project Match Made in Schools family!
