Meet Brianna DeVito

  • I chose to attend UT Arlington because it was close to home! Not everyone gets to live at home while they are attending school, but I do! It has given me a bigger support system and a shorter adjustment period, as I adjusted to college.
What is your favorite thing about the College of Education at UT Arlington?
  • My favorite thing about the College of Education is all of the people that I have met! Since you move together through the classes you see a lot of familiar faces, everyone is very nice and so passionate about the program.
Who is your favorite professor or staff member? Why?
  • My favorite professor has been Dr. Kathleen Tice. She has so much knowledge to share and you can feel her passion for literacy and the students throughout her lectures. Dr. Tice is also one of the most compassionate and understanding professors I have ever had.
What class have you enjoyed the most?
  • My favorite class so far has been LIST 4374. I get to read Children's chapter books for my assignments and discuss them with other future teachers.
What activities or hobbies do you participate in outside of class?
  • I am a Student Ambassador for the College of Education. I also go to Pursuit, which is a Christian college group through Central Bible Church! Outside of all of that, I love to do calligraphy, I have not been able to do it as much since I am so busy with school, but any chance that I get I try to do it!
What are your plans after graduation? When you think about your future career in education, what excites you the most? 
  • I plan to be a Kindergarten, 1st grade, or 2nd grade teacher in Mansfield ISD. When thinking ahead, the most exciting part is getting to have such a big impact on my future students not only in the classroom learning but also in getting to help them learn how to problem solve and find their safe space!
What is the one thing you think a prospective Education student needs to know?
  • Although the classes are tough and sometimes you do not think you will make it through. When you feel this way, remember why you are taking them, you are not taking the classes for yourself, you are taking them for your future students.
Have you overcome any challenges that you feel would help inspire other Education majors?
  • Working through college is tough, but working through college and student teaching is even tougher. Every time I start to feel overwhelmed and want to just quit, my mom has always said to me "the suffering now will get you the reward later."
